Banish GERD and Reflux with Medical Weight Loss!
Our medical weight loss program is incredibly effective and repeatable and our patients consistently lose 3-7 lbs per week. We originally brought the program on to assist our patient in losing weight, and getting off of various medications for diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and other chronic weight-related conditions.
One of the most remarkable things that we have seen is a near complete resolution of GERD and reflux within the first few weeks of starting the program. GERD stands for Gastro -Esophageal Reflux Disease and is most commonly known as heartburn. This condition is characterized by pain and burning in the chest and esophagus, the sensation of “throwing up in your mouth,“ and is often worsened at night and by certain foods. GERD can have serious consequences as it can erode the esophagus and increase susceptibility to infection and even certain forms of cancer.
Proton-Pump Inhibitors are the most commonly prescribed drugs for this condition and in my practice, I have seen hundreds of patients who have had these drugs prescribed to them. Unfortunately, they have severe side effects beyond heartburn relief. These drugs have been shown to decrease immune system function by suppression of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, increase esophageal polyp formation, decrease vitamin B12 absorption, increase fracture risk, increase risk of stomach and esophageal cancer, and vitamin D and calcium deficiencies. Fortunately there is a better way.
The vast majority of weight loss patients report reduced heartburn and reflux in the first few weeks, and many report a complete resolution of symptoms while on the program. The mechanism involves the consumption of the program foods coupled with a restriction in carbohydrates. When protein is acted upon in the stomach by hydrochloric acid (a normal metabolic process) the acid is used up or neutralized. Because of the quality of the protein in the program’s foods, the efficiency of the digestive process ensures that more of the acid is consumed.
If you are suffering from heartburn, GERD or reflux or know someone who is, let them know that there is a safe, effective and viable alternative to the prescribed drugs! For more information, contact us today!
