Electromyography and Nerve Conduction Velocity Testing

Testing of nerve and muscle function is an important new addition to the practice. With these specialized tests we will be able to distinguish between pain or sensation problems that originate in muscles and pain that originates in nerves as a result of compression or damage to the nerve itself.

The human spinal cord is a bundle of nerve fibers that send information form the brain to every cell tissue and organ in the body. The spinal cord sends 31 pairs of nerves out through the spinal column and these nerves then travel to their target tissue. These nerves function similarly to an electrical cord and just like a frayed wire or compressed cord, if there is damage along the course of the nerve, the target tissues will not function normally and can elicit pain, numbness, tingling or other abnormal problems.
